The Friendship Bakehouse

An initiative of Friendship Circle of Houston, the Friendship Bakehouse gives adults 18 and older with special needs the chance to learn valuable skills and gain real work experience. From mixing and baking to decorating, packaging, and delivering delicious treats and challah, participants are involved in every step.

Started to address the vocational gap for high school graduates with disabilities, the program helps participants gain experience, build independence, and develop self-esteem—preparing them for meaningful work in the culinary world.

Participants work in a safe, supervised environment, with staff support and volunteers available as needed. The program is tailored for adults who can work independently without one-on-one assistance.

What participants learn:

  • Baking techniques, measuring, mixing, and preparing pastries and bread

  • Kitchen safety and food preparation skills

  • Social interaction and teamwork

Products are distributed to individuals and local organizations, so participants learn to meet production schedules.

Kosher:
All products are kosher pareve — Pas Yisroel — under the strict supervision of MKT (Mehadrin Kashrut of Texas).
